Poor Charlie’s Almanack is out now
Experience the wit and wisdom of Charles T. Munger, online and in print.
It’s been over two years since we started working on our new edition of Poor Charlie’s Almanack. From the start, we felt honored to be able to bring Charlie Munger’s wit and wisdom to a new generation, and to celebrate his remarkable life—not to mention his curiosity, his intellect, and his wicked sense of humor—with a new edition of the book that has inspired so many entrepreneurs, investors, and thinkers. But with the news of Charlie’s death at the age of 99 last Tuesday, November 28, this work has taken on a new significance for all of us.
Charlie’s impact on the world goes far beyond the investments he made and the wealth he generated. It’s in the large, loving family he built—with 10 children, 16 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren—and the friendships he sustained for decades. It’s in the timeless values he espoused: reliability, rationality, patience, diligence, humility—and a pronounced intolerance for, as Charlie would say, “massive stupidity.” And it’s in the wisdom he shared with the world in countless talks, writings, and interviews, some of which are captured in this book.
We’ve had the privilege of working with Charlie and Peter Kaufman to bring this new edition into the world—getting their feedback, sharing early designs, and recording an extended interview between Charlie and John Collison. (Speaking of sharing early designs: True to form, Charlie had strong opinions about our cover artwork—and we’re glad he did, because the final, Charlie-approved cover speaks for itself.) While we’ve abridged some of the early chapters and sidebars, we’ve tried to stay faithful to what so many of us loved about the original: its multifaceted nature—part biographical sketch, part encyclopedia, part faithful transcript—and the many intellectual rabbit holes it invites the reader to explore. It’s fair to say that this has been one of the most rewarding and inspiring projects we’ve ever worked on.
Charlie's words are immortal, and they deserve to be shared far and wide. So we’re especially excited to share a free, online version of the book. It includes archival images from Charlie’s life, audio narration, and some other surprises. We hope that you enjoy it—and that it helps you, to quote Charlie, "be a little wiser than you were when you woke up.”
Wishing you happy reading,
